Guess what...

On Easter this year I was stealthy and put an egg I had made into the hunt at my dad's house.

My two biggest fears about having a girl are:

1. I am not very good at "girly" things.  What if my daughter wants me to do complicated braids or make-up?  I guess I am lucky I have youtube.

2. Baby girl poop diapers.  Let's face it, poop in baby vagina is a nightmare

The two things I am most excited about having a little girl are:

1. Girl clothes are much more fun than boy clothes.  Even though I am not into pink or princess there are still a million more awesome girl clothes and shoes options than for boys.

2. Gideon having a sibling.  I can't wait for Giddy to have someone to play with and fight with and love, especially someday when Mac and I are no longer able to be there.

Any other awesome/scary thing I should add to my lists?

How many is none?

Gideon told me there were none of something and on a whim I asked him how many none is.  I thought his answer was pretty clever:

Mother's Day

For weeks I have not-at-all-subtly hinted/told Mac that all I want for Mother's Day is a clean car.  Wednesday he told me that he hated to ruin the surprise but he had found a company that comes to your house and completely details your car inside and out and they would be here Thursday at 3pm.  I was completely stoked.  Cue rain.  It deluged all day Thursday and Mac had to reschedule for Monday.  On Sunday I was surprised in bed with flowers (brandished like a broadsword), my favorite bagel, and a wonderful card.

This is a Crayola Color Wonder card.  The ink you put on their hands only shows up on the card, GENIUSES!

The card lists 5 reasons I am the best mother ever, but Gideon wanted to do ten. His are "I like it when you play with me. I like it when you hug me. I like it when you kiss me (smooching sounds). I like it when you put me in my chair, and cooking with you."

For lunch we met my mom, brother, sister, and niece to eat family style at a local Italian chain and we ate ourselves into food comas, which my family is inordinately good at.

After lunch I was going to take a nap but instead got comfortable in bed and watch three episodes of Arrow.  My husband thought I was crazy but ummm, this is my day and I would like to watch my super hero show now thankyouverymuch.

I have to say I am loving this mom gig.  It doesn't hurt that Giddy and I are pretty similar in our love of staying home and not wearing pants.  Growing up I always said I never wanted to have any children and I stuck with that feeling all through college.  One of my biggest issues was that I liked and even loved certain other people's children but I didn't think I had the energy or patience to spend 24 hours a day being a child's parent.  Then in December of 2009 my biological clock went off and wouldn't stop until I produced a child.  Turns out Gideon isn't someone else's child, he's mine and I find it difficult to go 24 hours without him.  If anything I can say with certainty that my life is not at all what I pictured as an 18 year old heading out on my own, and that is absolutely fine, better than fine, its perfect.

UPDATE: It rained all day Monday so the car cleaning has been rescheduled again for next Monday.  You're welcome to all the people whose lawns we watered by trying to get my car cleaned.

Cookie Day

Confession, I eat a lot more cookies and pizza when I am pregnant than I would otherwise.  So much so that I deemed today cookie day and invited family and friend to indulge with me, while in their own homes at an online cookie party.  Giddy and his friend Haydi helped me make S'mores Cookie Bars (found here http://www.iheartnaptime.net/smores-bars/) that turned out so good you could use them as currency if only you could keep yourself from eating them all (you can't, hence paper money).

I love special days, particularly when it is so simple to say "guess what?  it's cookie day!"

They were pretty proud of themselves

These two know how to get all the cookies and TV they want

Looks like it's Mommy Time

Scarborough Fair

Every year Mac says to me "we should go to Scarborough Fair." and I say "Ooo that's a great idea!" and I run to my computer only to discover that its been over for weeks and we missed it again.

BUT WAIT, this year was different, this year Mac mentioned it in April and it turns out we didn't miss it!  To celebrate we actually attended the fair this year and it was amazing.

A guy juggled fire, for real

The tenth Doctor was there with the Tardis, so, obviously this was authentic

Gideon is now a knight

I ate my first ever turkey leg

The jousting was amazing and Gideon got to meet the Blue Knight (who was his favorite even though he was completely useless on the field)!

I had an authentic renaissance dirty feet experience

He was completely and utterly worn out and fell asleep within 10 minutes of leaving the fair

And we got a family picture!
I highly recommend this renaissance festival.  Not only were their excellent shows, food, and vendors, but the park is also covered in beautiful old trees making it so shady and cool that we hardly noticed we had chosen the hottest day of the year for our visit.  You can find out more here http://www.srfestival.com/
